In female red-winged blackbirds, vibrant red-orange epaulets are considered to be a sign of healthy mature birds who have thrived under positive conditions, so this girl is a healthy survivor. This piece was selected for the 2021 Artists for Conservation and Wild Bird Trust Pacific Coast Portraits exhibition at Maplewood Flats in the fall of 2021.
